'Hood Food Guide presents What\'s Grub Got To Do With It? If love\'s on the menu, we got the venue. Visit Preston\'s Best Date Spot. If you’re looking to impress a date in Matt Lane’s hood, come to Stray Neighbour. In this season’s final episode of “What’s Grub Got To Do With It,” our host Matt Lane, co-owner of Mamasita, took his beautiful wife Jen to their Preston date spot, Stray Neighbour. The open-aired space puts guests of any variety at ease with a combination of adorable puppy artwork and bright green plants placed strategically throughout. Nothing says welcome quite like sitting on a tree stump, sipping on a beer and staring at a mural of a dog as you await a Little Rump Steak. Andrew Chew, Ben and Daniel Stray’s new and rather welcome addition to the area (and the owner of (hint hint) Chew Burger - check them out in Hood Food Guide: Preston) makes a play on the co-owners’ surnames along with their understandable affinity for the canine class. One of the first things you notice when you walk into the large space is the puppy-handles over the 12 beer taps, all craft and Aussie or Kiwi, thank you very much. They get a bit more exotic in the bottle, and have a superb wine list to back it up and take you into romantic date world. If you’re coming to Stray Neighbour for a classy Preston date, bring someone who shares your appreciation for a modern European menu with a heavy French influence. The precise and exquisite food complements the relaxed and elegant space, so you should feel rightfully encouraged to order a few things off the menu and share. Think of it as foreplay. As you make your way from Spanish Mackerel on Black Sticky Rice with a Mushroom Escabeche to Tempura Zucchini Flowers with Heirloom Tomatoes, house-made Ricotta and back-of-house grown Basil, the lights will dim and the music will turn up. Finish her off with a classic Creme Brulee and a White Chocolate Panna cotta with Coconut topping. Stray Neighbour 463-467 Plenty Rd. Preston, VIC, 3072 03 9471 1948 Open Tues-Thurs 4pm-11pm, Fri-Sat 3pm-12am, Sun 3pm-10pm. - HFG. Distribution Support from Tourism Victoria. Hungry for more?
