'We\'ve got another new artist alert!! We absolutely love getting new bands and musicians into our studio to share their original music with us and you all! We had Rabbits Anonymous in our studio earlier this year to share a few songs from their rock opera that they are working on The Elephant Man, Jospeh Merrick. Here is the first song and third movement of \"The Suite of the Elephant Man\" titled \"Jail Food for the Debutant\". Hope you enjoy! Rabbits Anonymous rose from the ashes of the Phantom Limbs, an east coast punk band from Ocean City, Maryland that combined grungy garage punk, pop sensibilities and a conscience. The band is the vision of Ryan Abbott, leader of the Limbs and cofounder of Annapolis bands Chick Habit and the Dead Pens. At the outset of the Covid pandemic, Abbott set out to produce an ambitious solo album, and brought in his Dead Pens songwriting partner and cellist Sally McGee, along with an inner circle of local musicians, to create a sprawling, cinematic record of music that included a 22-minute concept rock opera about the life of Joseph Merrick, a severely deformed Victorian-era British man known as the Elephant Man who has been the subject of many books, movies and plays. “Every year Sally and I were being asked to play this under 27 show paying tribute to artists who died at 27,” says Abbott, who ashes a cigarette even though he doesn’t smoke. “We got tired of doing those standards, you know, Nirvana, Hendrix, The Doors. One day I was reading this story in the paper about how some British scientists were sure they had discovered the soft tissue remains of Joseph Merrick and the article noted that he died at 27. Later that night me and Sally started writing ‘The Suite of the Elephant Man.’” Rabbits Anonymous is currently manned by Abbott on guitar and vocals, long-time Limbs drummer and hard core legend Randolph Showell, and Delaware bass phenom of Rogue Citizens fame Nick Clark. The album, featuring outrageously talented musicians such as Sean Loomis (Dune Hounds), Otto Grundman (Roast John and Muskrat Lightning), Bill Todd (Lower Class Citizens), Adam Bilenki, Scott Glorioso, Kasey Briggs and Chris Schaney, is due out on vinyl later this year on Bob the Organism Records while a collection of digital EPs, including a music video for lead single “Quick! Hide the Weed!” are due out late spring on all streaming platforms. Give them a follow on all their social media platforms!
