Uric acid can lead to a number of diseases, especially inflammatory conditions such as gout which effects millions of people and can create swelling, inflammation and pain, even severe pain. It is important to note that uric acid is a waste product created by the body when certain food are consumed, typically unhealthy foods such as sugars, alcohol, fruit juices, organ meats and certain yeasts that can cause a flare up. Fortunately, there are foods that can help to decrease and eliminate uric acid from the and reduce symptoms related to it and diseases such as gout. Now, lets discuss some food choices we should make to reduce uric acid in the body naturally.  When it comes to reducing uric acid, we will want to switch to foods that are low in purines. The above mentioned foods are high in purines, and can be a major contributor to uric acid build up in the body and the symptoms it can cause. First, perhaps the most important thing we can consume is water, as being well hydrated can help to flush out toxins and wastes from the body that can lead to uric acid remaining near our joints. Be sure to drink the recommended water intake per day, which is usually about 8-12 glasses of water, which can vary depending on our activity levels.  Fruits of all kinds can help to decrease uric acid build up in the body and are fine to consume in this regard. This is attributed to their high levels of nutrition, antioxidants and healthy compounds while being low in purines. Studies have found that cherries specifically can help to lower uric acid levels in the body and reduce inflammation related to uric acid and related diseases, such as gout. Like fruits, all vegetables are a wonderful choice to naturally reduce uric acid in the body. Dark leafy green retables such as broccoli, spinach and kale are great choices, as well as mushrooms and eggplant. Again, this is not only because they are low in purines, but also because of their great nutritional value and antioxidants, which can help fight uric acid and reduce inflammation.  Often overlooked as a food choice to consume to decrease uric acid in the body, but nuts such as almonds, walnuts and brazil nuts can be very helpful in reducing uric acid and healing gout. Just be sure to consume them in moderation to limit calorie intake. As well, they are very nutrient dense so you do not need to eat them in large amounts to obtain their health benefits related to reducing uric acid. The nuts mentioned above, and other, are packed with important nutrition and essential fatty acids that are not only important for our overall health, but also for reducing inflammation.  Herbs and spices such as turmeric, cumin and sage are also great choices to naturally reduce uric acid in the body. In fact, most herbs and spices are helpful in this regard. Turmeric can be especially helpful for decreasing uric acid in the body and treating gout since its main bioactive compound curcumin is an inflammation fighting powerhouse. It is also loaded with antioxidants that can increase our body’s antioxidant capacity and fight free radicals and oxidative stress that can lead to uric acid build up. This is the same for most herbs and spices, and make an excellent addition to our diet for naturally fighting uric acid and symptoms such as pain and swelling.  Lastly, above we mentioned we will want to stay away from sugary drinks, soda and alcohol, and that we should focus on staying hydrated by consuming enough water per day. Other beverages that are helpful in reducing uric acid in the body includes green tea, and really teas of any type, such as white, oolong and herbal tea varieties. Again, green tea specifically is packed with antioxidants and unique compounds that flush out wastes in the body, reducing uric acid in the process.  Thank you for watching the video!
